Sponsors Night 2019

Friday evening was Sponsors Night.

Each year we invite our sponsors along for a Pie & A Pint to thank them for their support of the festival. It was held in the Corbie Inn on Friday 2 August 2019.

The first festival was in 2001 and this year will be the 19th festival. Many of our sponsors have been with us since the very earliest days.

Sponsors come and go for many different reasons and numbers vary from year to year. 2018 saw 39 local companies, businesses and individuals sign up.

In the early days each contributed £80 to sponsor one of the casks of beer and have their name listed with the beer.

But as the festival grew and became more successful there were not enough beers to go around.

Our sponsors are very important for the festival. They help ensure it not only covers all its costs but that it makes a ‘profit’.

Now they happy to sponsor and have their support highlighted on a rolling display. As recognition they also receive a framed certificate of sponsorship.

Presentation of Donations

Profit is fed back into the local community. Donations are made to local groups & organisations for the benefit of Bo’ness.

Donations were made to:

  • Bo’ness Community Hospital
  • Deanburn School/Old Kirk Lunch Club
  • Salmond Court Residents Bus Hire
  • Bench for the Return of the Buoy
  • Crosses for the Cenotaph
  • Kinneil Band (National Competition Travel)
  • Harcus Strachan Memorial Bench

Most of the donations had already been distributed but 2 were still outstanding. Both were invited along to receive cheques for £500.

Kinneil Band finished in second place in their section of the Scottish Brass Band Championships.

That qualified them for the British Finals in September. The donation was a contribution towards travelling and accommodation costs.

Kinneil Band Playing

They kindly agreed to come along and play a selection of their repertoire.

The second donation was to Bo’ness Community Council towards providing a bench for the Harcus Strachan Quiet Garden at the Cenotaph. It will be made by Ballantine Iron Company similar to the one sited at The Buoy.

As the weather was friendly towards us the presentations were made in the beer garden. A mixture of sponsors and patrons enjoyed the Kinneil Band who ended their performance with a rendition of The Fair Song!

Needless to say, like the pie & pint, that went down a treat as well!
