Bo'ness Real Ale Festival 2014

Planning for this year's annual real ale festival is pretty well complete (apart from picking the beers, that is but...).

It was another great festival last year and this one is going to be no different as we have a bit of a history now and everyone who comes for the first, second or been coming for the last 14 years all tell us they enjoy it and actually look forward to it and that can't be bad, so...

Dates for your diary in 2014

This year the festival is being held on the last weekend of September.

We said last year that if "everything goes well, first weekend in October was hoped to be our fixed time from now on" but due to a Town Halls administrative changeover from Falkirk Council to Falkirk Community Trust, someone sneaked in again (remember it happened before!) and booked it for a wedding.

Some people, eh, where's their priorities but I'll say it again, in the future "Should always be first weekend in October"! There I've said it (will have to put in a standing order to make sure)!

Bo'ness Town Hall

  • Friday 26 September, 5pm till 11pm
  • Saturday 27 September, Noon till 11pm

Band, beer and burgers (same slogan as last year as I like alliteration and if the hat fits)!

Band. Like previous two years there will only be a band on Saturday night for the same reasons as last two!

A lot of visitors like to come and listen to the music and that's great but many also said that it is sometimes too loud to just have a chat with friends. And, we like to think we listen to who really matters!

Friday night will be a quiet night (as far as music goes that is) with only some in the background to take the edge of the deafening silence! Again, we've booked the same entertainment for Saturday.

They have always gone down pretty well, just like the ale so it seemed like a good move. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, as the saying goes!

Hope you agree but your opinions are always welcome and will be taken into consideration for future festivals. You can comment on anything you think could help, improve or make the festival even better.

It's sometimes hard, even for us to realise, that this year will be the 14th and we intend to just keep on going as long as you continue to enjoy it and want to come! So, don't hold back, we're big boys and girls and can cope with criticism as long as it's constructive, of course.

Beer. As every year there will be the same varied selection of ales to sample, some you'll already know and some that will be new and not tasted before from new breweries.

The good news is that there are a many, many more breweries to choose from these days and we are going to try and get a few more into the line-up and take, at least, 2 beers from each and top up (so to speak) where needed if one or two have new ales not been on the bar before.

Harry's Bar, this year will be in name only, not because of any problem with the idea but just for a wee change. It will still be through in the library but will be the quiet area on both nights where you can just go and have a wee blether if that's your tipple and what you fancy doing.

Burgers. As in previous years there will be the usual range of pub type grub in addition to the ever popular burgers and, of course, pies and soft drinks (for those unfortunates or kind souls who have to drive)!

So, get these dates into your organiser, diary or smartphone and keep in touch for updates (you can also follow us on Twitter). And, we'll see you then!
