Presentation to 2011 Beer Festival Sponsors and Donations

Each year, roundabout August, BRAAS invites, all those sponsors who helped make that year's festival a success, to a Pie & A Pint night in a local hostelry.

Also invited are representatives of the local groups and other causes receiving donations from the previous year's festival.

This year the presentation was held at the Corbie Inn at Corbiehall in Bo'ness due to the unfortunate closure of the Riverview Bar & Restaurant on The Wynd, earlier in the year.

Until the opening of the Corbie Inn, at end of October 2011, the Riverview had been the only pub in Bo'ness offering real ales and it is always sad when you lose an 'old friend'.

Festival Sponsors and Donations to Groups

Sponsors Commemorative Tankard

In addition to the pie and pint they are also presented with a Commemorative Tankard and a Certificate of Sponsorship.

The certificate is the one that hangs above the beer they sponsored during the festival and the tankard has an etched logo of the festival theme for that year.

Last year's festival theme was the Bo'ness Hill Climb and this year's theme is the Return of the Bridgeness Slab.

It's a cliche but the festival does continue to go from strength to strength in more ways than one.

In 2011 48 local businesses, organisations and a few individuals each sponsored a barrel of beer (it's actually a firkin but whose arguing). Even in the current economic climate the support of our sponsors goes from strength to strength.

Another heartening part of the festival is that, each year, we have more and more breweries and beers to choose from. And, one more time, they continue to go from strength to strength, as well!

Why do they sponsor us?

It's a question we sometimes find hard to answer but part of must be that all the proceeds of each festival to back into the local economy through donations and contributions to local good causes and community groups.

From the 2011 festival, £2780 has been given to local causes needing a little help and groups to help with their fundraising. And, since we started out in 2001, a total of £15,280 has been put back into the community helping support Bo'ness.

Donations from 2011 Real Ale Festival

Bo’ness Pipe Band

Earlier in year BRAAS donated £150 to them, £100 to cover the cost of 2 presentation cups (1 senior & 1 junior) and a £50 donation to the junior section.

4 Community/Charity Groups

£140 to Friends of Kinneil
£140 to Victorian Street Fair
£140 to Bosom Buds (Cancer Charity)
£160 to Bo’ness Town Trust (their share of Bo’ness Community Groups annual insurance policy)

First Responders

In 2009 we donated £1500 to the Journal’s Hearty Campaign to purchase a defibrillator. We are now donating £300 to assist with running/training costs.

2 Special Causes

Two local young people, Logan Fox & Corey Yeadon, who groups and family have been raising money to help give them a better quality of life will each receive £300 to assist them.

Cozy Blanket Youth Music Project

Cozy Blanket is a project run by Craig Hannah giving help and guidance to aspiring young musicians in Bo'ness. BRAAS have assisted them in the past by covering some of the costs of their “Battle of the Bands” competition and again this year we giving them £100 towards their running costs.

Local Parent and Toddler Groups

In 2006 BRAAS gave 7 groups in the town a donation of £200 to assist with purchase of play equipment. This year another £150 is being given to each of the groups.

They are:-
St. Andrews Church Parent & Toddlers
Old Parish Church Parent & Toddlers
Baptist Church Parent & Toddlers
Craigmailen Church Parent & Toddlers
Salvation Army Parent & Toddlers
Baby Bunnies Parent & ToddlersSt. Mary’s Church Parent & Toddlers

There is still seven parents and toddlers groups in Bo'ness and BRAAS is pleased to be able to help!

Total donated from 2011 Bo'ness Real Ale Festival - £2780

And, of course, a special thanks goes to all of you who come along as well and enjoy the beers and hopefully the good company you meet.

So, we're looking forward to seeing again this October. See you!
